Red-throated Divers on the move

 At Climping Beach this morning were (PD) had been insitu since 07:30 good numbers of Red-throated Diver moving east with a combined total over 60 seen this morning.  Plenty of Red-breasted Merganser and Auk sp offshore, and several Gannets moving east. c.75 Med Gull along the beach and moving west, 10 Brent Geese, 15 Oystercatcher, and singles of Buzzard and Grey Wagtail was the best of the rest.

Walking north along the River Arun from Tortington Lane junction,  found a single Bewick's amongst the Mute Swan at TQ 008 051, also Marsh Harrier, 2 Kestrel, 7 Little Egret, Cetti's Warbler, and a Redshank.

Elmer Rocks: A couple of hours or so down the local beach again and up to Poole Place, produced the following. (OM)

 At the back of Church Farm at TQ008 022 relocated the Dartford Warbler that was seen yesterday by (BS) and present in the area since the autumn. Around the fields up to the River, 4 Redshank, 1 Kingfisher, 2 Med Gull, 5 Meadow Pipits, 2 Yellowhammer and a Chiffchaff around the old sewage works.

Quick check on the pools around Marsh Farm at SU988 045, held 53 Gadwall, 9 Teal, 8 Mallard, 3 Cormorant, 2 Mute Swan, Grey Heron and a Water Rail heard. Also around the fields 4 Fieldfare, 2 Great-spotted Woodpecker and singles of Redwing, Buzzard, and Yellowhammer.

Yesterday afternoon at high tide found c.90 Dunlin, 70 Grey Plover and 25 Sanderling along West Beach, with good numbers of Med Gull in the area.

A walk around the golf course, which was pretty quiet hoping for Woodcock, had to settle for Jack Snipe, which was a good consolation.

An afternoon visit to Climping Beach for an hour from 13:15 produced the following on the sea and along the beach.

Elmer Rocks to Poole Place:(OM)

There was a dead calm sea on the falling tide with a few bits of interest offshore. Two Red-throated Divers (1E, 1 os), a Great Northern Diver os and 3 Common Scoter E which then dropped in were about the best, plus c.24 R/b Mergansers and 15 Great Crested Grebes. Along the beach were 20 Sanderlingsa few Ringed Plovers and Turnstones, a Pied Wagtail and 3 Med Gulls, before they moved on due to the inevitable disturbance. The woods and fields were disappointing with nothing noteworthy bar a Kestrel.
