Singing Chiffchaff Atherington
Not quite on the patch, but just before noon on the falling tide on the newly-emergent sand at the west end of East Beach (by the harbour mouth) there were 285 Sanderlings. They had flown in just prior to that in two or three large groups from Climping direction. All very excitable, ignoring even close people and dogs, and feeding very intently. Counted twice so the number accurate. Not seen that number in that concentration before, presumably some migration going on. (MD)
