Had three ringed Med Gulls by the Arun just south of Arundel over the last two days which give some clue to where some of the 250+ you had at Climping a couple of days back came from. All three were ringed at the Total site in Antwerp, Belgium. Today’s bird (white 33HA) was a >3CY ringed on 12 May 2020 and still at Antwerp on 13 June. The two seen yesterday were white ring 3852, ringed as a pullus in June 2018 and since seen in May 2019 in the Vendee, France; and white ring 3001 ringed as a >3CY in May 2018 and since seen in Brittany in December 2018 and Zwin in Flanders in June 2019. A chilly start to another bright morning along West beach down to Climping and back around the golf course, with the highlight being a Little-ringed Plover heard 3 times calling west over the Mill. Other than that fairly quiet with 17 Sanderling, 3 Ringed Plover and a Oystercatcher west. Small numbers of Swift and Sand Martin moving east, 4 Willow Warbler, and a male Bullfinch around Atherington.

A brief late morning visit to the patch, starting at Kents walking down to rife at the campsite produced another Whinchat, a Cuckoo again seen in flight towards longwood, and a Willow Warbler around the paddock. Two Kestrel, Sparrowhawk and small numbers of Med Gull and Sandwich Tern along the tide line.

Bird of the day was a Whinchat seen along the rife east of bread lane. Nothing of much moving offshore with the usual toing and froing of Sandwich Tern and Gannet in small numbers. 65+ Med Gull taking residence in the pea field north of the beach, 8 Common Scoter east and 4 Little Egret flew west. 6 Ringed Plover and 3 Sanderling landed on the beach  and singles of Curlew west a Great-crested Grebe on the sea and a Grey Partridge

Highlight of the morning was two Spotted Redshank flying west at Climping beach at 07:30 close inshore.

A couple of hours watching the sea in sunny bright conditions without a hint of breeze and a flat calm sea found again rafts of Gulls, with estimated counts up to four figures. Med Gull numbers slightly more than yesterday with about c.200+ with small numbers of Sandwich Tern moving off shore with little else.  2 Common Tern east, 2 Little Egret and singles of Great-crested Grebe, Redshank, Ringed Plover and Pied Wagtail.

A bright sunny morning with just a hint of breeze, found rafts of Gulls off Climping Beach. C.150+ Med Gull feeding close inshore and many hundred Herring and Black-headed Gull distant.

 Not much to report on the bird front this morning. About 200 swifts moving through. Mainly west bound for a change. Big group over the mill with about 20 sand martins and similar number of swallows. Otherwise very quiet. (RP)

A sea watch at Climping beach this morning was very disappointing, with firstly the sea mist and then the lack of passage. Only birds of note east were 43 Gannet, 2 Med Gull, 4 Shoveler, and east 7 Shelduck a single Ringed Plover and 4 Little Egret in the area.

Hundreds of Swifts on the move west over Bailiffscourt this morning from 07:00, c.600+ being a conservative total, also small numbers of Swallow and a couple of House Martin present. Offshore with most birds moving west, singles of Fulmar, Curlew, 5 Commic Tern,  small numbers of Gannet and Sandwich Tern.  3 Ringed Plover on the beach, 2 Little Egret, 4 Stock Dove and 3 Buzzard.
