The Climping Gap remains one of the last undeveloped sites along the coast in West Sussex. This site is dedicated to Birds seen in and around the Climping Gap area by myself and a few die hard friends, that live in the area and have been birding the local patch for decades. Could only manage a couple hours in the cold wind this morning, my efforts include 6w 3e Common Scoter, 4w Shelduck, 1e Diver spa, 2 Great-crested Grebe, 5e Red-breasted Merganser, 3e Med Gull, 12e |Sandwich Tern plus additional 17 in the field with 7 Brent Geese. 2 Wheatear, and 3 Chiffchaff.
Good number of Sandwich Tern offshore and in the flooded fields.

Brief visit to the patch this morning produced 9e 1w Sandwich Tern, 2w Med Gull, 2e Rbm, and 1e Gannet. A Bar-tailed Godwit on the beach then flying off east. 1 Shelduck and 4 Brent Geese in the flooded fields.

Out at 09:00 after the rain had stopped, the highlight of the morning was a Raven honking flying east at 10:15, also 1 Firecrest on the corner of the road my the Mill. Supporting cast for the day were 1e Siskin, 2 Buzzards, 2 Grey Partridge and a Treecreeper in Baliffscourt. On the beach 7e Med Gull, 78 Oystercatcher, 60 Sanderling and 6 Brent Geese.

On the patch at 07:30 this morning and was rewarded with 3w Avocet, that landed on the sea for five minutes then continued moving west. Good numbers of Brent Geese moving east in large flocks and ended with a total of c.500, also 1e Fulmar, 44 Grey Plover, 65 Curlew in the fields , 8 Dunlin, 5 Great-crested Grebe, 1w 2e Common Scoter, 09:30 to carry on with the decorating when a picked up a Marsh Tern dip feeding 75 metres out. It continued flying in a north west direction eventually flying over Atherington Cottages and lost to view. Total shock, a very early Black Tern.

Bird records for Marsh farm on Sunday 3rd March include 500 Wood Piegeons, 6 Yellowhammer, 2 Jay, 12 Gadwall, 2 Pintail, 20 Mallard, 4 Wigeon, 4 Teal, 1 Great-crested Grebe, 4 Coot, 40 Lapwing, 1 Water Rail, 1 Goldcrest, 6 Fieldfare, 4 Redwing, 8 Song Thrush, 1 Mistle Thrush, 1 Buzzard and 4 Skylark.

Had a walk around Marsh Farm this morning in the drizzle, and found both pools very quiet, with only 1 Great-crested Grebe, a couple of Gadwall, and 8 Teal. Nice to hear some birds singing at last,with good numbers of both Yellowhammer and Skylark. A flock of 30 distant Lapwing took flight as a pair of Buzzards flew over, 17 Snipe flushed from the flooded meadow with 55 Meadow Pipit. The bird of the day was a Bittern flushed from ditches, and flew further north up the valley. Also in the area 3 Bullfinch, 3 Chiffchaff, Sparrowhawk and a Peregrine on the Gas Tower.
