Elmer Rocks sea watch (OM)

There were at least 65 Kittiwakes west this morning – the majority were very close along shoreline with a few more distant.  Also among them and other gulls a total of 3 Little Gulls went through, a 1st w and 2 adults.

At 1030 a Great Northern Diver went west very close almost over the rock islands, which is just when my camera battery died!

Not much else; 20 Sanderlings, a dozen Turnstones and c. 10 Rb Mergansers offshore.

09 November, 2022

Made a fairly short visit this morning, starting with a short sea-watch which was a waste of time….just a couple of Gannets, 4 distant Kittiwakes west and a dozen or so Med Gulls back and forth. It wasn’t long before the very high tide and strong wind made it almost impossible to carry on, with waves and spray continually breaking over the beach and shore.

A Grey Wagtail was in the flooded car-park and there were 6 Pied Wagtails dotted about the area, plus 15 Meadow Pipits, 5 Skylarks, 2 Reed Buntings,  a Chiffchaff, 30 Linnets and 50 Goldfinches. Two Buzzards and a Kestrel were also seen. The small highlight was along Bread Lane, in the set-aside where the wooden footpath cross-roads post is….two Stonechats with a Dartford Warbler flicking about beneath them in the kale/weeds. (OM)
