An Osprey feeding in the river by Arun yacht club at 15:28, last seen heading towards the footbridge at Littlehampton. (DB)
Also a Dartford Warbler with a couple of Stonechat in field north of the beach, 200yds west of Poole Place this morning. (OM)
I started at Climping - Atherington but only did 0815-0945hrs, an hour and a half, a shame because there was a lot of vis mig but I had left my damn phone at home (again!)..I had to leave as I was expecting an important phone call. So my log was: (OM)
Redshank - 1
Little Egret - 7
Sandwich Tern - 2E
Swallow - 80E
Grey Wagtail - 1E
Pied Wagtail - 30+ (5E and 25+ in fields)
meadow Pipit - 30
Skylark - 15 N, c.10 in fields
Med Gull - 20
Blackcap - 4
Chiffchaff - 8
Siskin - 102E (several other flocks not seen but heard)
Redpoll - 12E
Goldfinch - 70
Linnet - 60
Having gone home to get my phone and a coffee, I went back out to Elmer Rocks, where the sea was flat calm but dead.
Two Brent Geese went east (!) as did two Sandwich Terns. Eleven Litle Egrets were feeding in the fields with gulls and c.12 Meadow Pipits.
Then a surprise when two Stonechats in my little set-aside corner were joined by a Dartford Warbler....it actually gave good views at times
in bins and scope...but trying to get a pic was a nightmare as I was always just a bit too late or slow in getting the camera ready...no change there!
So later, on the local Whats App, Dan Booker put on news of an Osprey at the marina and road bridge. It has to be worth a go, so I phoned him and he seemed to think it would be around.
I ended up going to the marina, nothing for a while, then a brief view, then finally stonking views over the marina, rounding off a nice day. A couple of pics but excuse the Dartford.
cheers O
