Also today a late report of a male Blackcap back of the golf course.

Another relatively quiet day although a nice surprise at West Beach this morning with a Barnacle Goose with Brent Geese, feeding in fields east of the car park or returning to the sea depending on the tide or disturbance. Of unknown origin of course but with the Brent on the move in the last couple of days this could be of wild stock.

18 March, 2015

Cold misty start to the day at West Beach with the wind prevailing from the north, then mid morning blue sky with some warmth in the sun it felt like Spring is definitely on its way.

A cold north easterly this morning resulted in another quiet morning at the patch. A single Firecrest along the Mill road was the highlight of the morning, and  a Greylag Goose flew south over Climping Beach before veering onward west.

Also, 10.00 to 10.30 path behind the golf course:
7 Linnets
1 Reed Bunting,

And 10.30 to 12.30 from Climping Gap to the car park and back had:
25 Sanderling
1 Turnstone
2 Kittiwake
4 Grey Partridge – two in Horse Paddock and two in field west of Climping Gap
1 Buzzard
1 Kestrel
Up to 660 Brent Geese. Counted 390 in the field west of Climping Gap at 12.00, but had had 270 flying strongly east in three groups earlier. May have doubled back of course.

My first Wheatear of the spring at West Beach this morning, a brisk easterly wind and grey conditions didn't inspire a prolonged visit.
